We turn to body wash as a trusted way to start your day squeaky-clean, but you might feel anything but when you read the label of conventional body washes. Many soaps have toxic chemicals in their ingredient lists, like parabens, phthalates, and sulfates. Research from the CDC shows that much of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream, meaning those chemicals might be lurking long after you step out of the shower.
Shopping for non-toxic and organic body wash is a way to avoid these chemical additives and feel confident that your body wash is free of harmful chemicals and toxins. Here are our top picks for the best organic body wash for all needs.

Dr Bronner’s 4-in-1 Lemongrass Lime Sugar Soap

Dr Bronner’s is a cult-favorite all natural and all organic soap brand. Their products are truly great for all use cases (they won our best pick for all organic soap, period).
We love their 4-in-1 Lemongrass Lime Sugar Soap for an organic body wash specifically (but it works great for hands, shampoo, and even pets, too). The formula is made with fair trade and organic sugar derived from organic white grape juice. It’s also blended with organic coconut and hemp oils for a creamy, moisturizing lather. The formula is certified vegan, non-GMO, and nearly 50% of the ingredients are Fair Trade certified via Fair for Life.
It’s also a 100% biodegradable soap, so you can use it an outdoor shower and not worry about leaving traces of harmful chemicals. The bottle is made of 100% post-consumer recycled material, too.
We also love that Dr Bronner’s has one of the most impressive environmental, social, and sustainable initiatives in the industry. They’re a certified B corporation (and get one of the highest scores of all certified B corporations), they have incredibly progressive labor and employment practices, and are investing in regenerative organic agriculture practices to help combat climate change.
What users love
- It produces a mild lather that doesn’t strip skin of oil
- The scent is mildly sweet
- A little goes a long way (some customers even dilute it)
What users don’t love
- Some customers have had issues with the soap leaking in the shipping process.

Best Organic Body Wash Bar

Best Bar
Ursa Major
Morning Mojo Bar
DETAILS
- Energizing soap blended with eucalyptus, peppermint, and rosemary
- No parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, or synthetic fragrance

If you prefer to have your body wash be in bar foam (less packaging, why not?), the Ursa Major Morning Mojo Bar Soap is a good choice.
This organic body wash is more of an energizing soap (hence the emphasis on morning). It’s made with a blend of eucalyptus, peppermint, and rosemary, and gives off a bright and refreshing scent. It’s made with organic ingredients and has no parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrance, and more. It does have palm oil, but it’s RSPO certified to be sustainable.

They’re committed to making their business practices as sustainable as possible—like using renewable energy in the manufacturing process (producing almost all of their cartons at a carbon neutral facility), maxing out their post consumer recycled materials in every product, and sourcing as many ingredients as possible from the United States to lower their carbon footprint.
Our Research Process
Our search for the best organic body wash started at the brand level.
We first looked for organic body wash companies that used certified organic ingredients—that’s the gold standard. It’s great to filter your search for brands that use certified organic ingredients, but not all newer or smaller brands can! There are some great organic body washes on this list that don’t use fully certified organic ingredients.
We also looked for the best natural body wash brands that were using high quality ingredients without any harsh chemical additives. In fact, all of the products on our list avoid some of the toxins you might want to avoid when shopping for body care products, like parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or triclosan. All are known to be harmful to human health, and you probably don’t want to be rubbing a product full of them on your body every morning!
We gave extra considerations to brands that have gone out of their way to achieve higher standards for non-toxicity, by earning a certification from Made Safe or the Environmental Working Group. We also gave bonus points to certified B Corps and brands investing in other sustainable business practices—like using post consumer recycled content or renewable energy in their manufacturing process.
In the process, we considered the following organic and natural body wash brands:
- Dr Bronners
- Avalon Organics
- Rahua
